   Lone Star Commitment

Here at Lone Star, we are all about commitment.  We are committed to the Barbados Blackbelly
as a breed, we are committed to breeding excellent quality sheep, we are committed to helping
our buyers be successful in raising quality sheep, and above all we are committed to integrity.

What you take away from these pages is intended to help you in your endeavors to raise
quality Barbados Blackbelly Sheep.  When we were newcomers in this breed, we were helped

by dedicated breeders preserving the genetics of the Barbados Blackbelly breed, and we
would like to pass that forward to you along with our total commitment to quality.

We have successfully bred show and performance dogs of multiple different breeds, training
them and showing them to their titles; we've bred rare and exotic birds; and we have
been involved in raising one type or
another of livestock for a good portion of our lives.
Our committment has gone as far
as educating ourselves about each animal and fowl we
   have been engaged with,
including getting an associates degree in animal technology from
  Texas A&M, myself, and
Mike serving on the Board of Directors of the Barbados Blackbelly
Sheep Association International (BBSAI).  I also edited the Lamb Lovers Cookbook devoted

totally to lamb recipes, as well as serving on various committees of the BBSAI.  We feel
that we have something to offer this rare and endangered species.  We also realize that
anytime one ventures out into new territory, which we occasionally do in our endeavors
to breed the best, there is opposition.  We believe that is to be expected.  It serves to
keep us dedicated and committed to what we are trying to accomplish in our breeding
   practices.

We have also been discouraged by dedicated breeders who have sold us sheep in the
past that they considered polled, that produced horns, horn buds and scurs that caused
valuable time to be lost in our breeding program.  We promise never to do that to
our fellow breeder's efforts.  However, in trying our best to preserve the breed, we must
say that we believe people who continue to breed Barbados Blackbelly
rams to ewes
without giving any thought to what they will produce for future generations,
are not
worthy to be called conservationists. We have a breed standard that has been
written
and revered by those wanting to keep this breed from extinction.  It is published
by the
Barbados Blackbelly Sheep Association International and must be taken into
consideration
each time a sheep is bred.  We believe that if we are not improving the breed,
in other words breeding to the "ideal" of the standard, then we are
either stagnating
or regressing.  Populating the earth with sheep bred by watering down the
   official
breed standard is not going to give us much to work with after the dust settles.
We must preserve today the qualities we want for tomorrow before they are totally lost
   and we
have nothing to choose from for breed stock.

At Lone Star Farm we are committed to being the best stewards we can be of the genetics
of the original landrace Barbados Blackbelly that were imported from Barbados.  We would
like to help you do the same by providing some of the finest quality breeding stock,
with pedigrees to match, that you will find anywhere  in  the United  States today.  We
have worked hard to be successful at preserving this breed.  We will answer honestly
any questions you may have about our sheep.   Our motto is: We are interested in
preserving  this breed, not just promoting our own sheep.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with your inquiries.
