Our Ram Policy
Lone Star Has A Reason For Their Ram Policy

These two ram lambs are between 4 and 6 months old.  They are well on their way to becoming good canditates for meeting our criteria for adult rams to be used for breeding animals.  Left to right are Lone Star Caleb and Lone Star Pilot.   We are using Pilot on our ewes at Lone Star Farm now.  Caleb developed scurs and was sold as a market lamb.

The lamb to the far right is 3 1/2 month old Lone Star  Waylan now owned by Adam and Shannon Peairson of Brenham, TX.  Waylan grew up and is producing nicely for the Peairsons.  They are pleased with the progression of their flock.

   Our Ram Policy

We sell rams for breeding.  We never sell a ram lamb for breeding, only adult rams.  Our reputation means a lot to us and when you come to us wanting a polled ram, that is what you will get.  Any honest breeder of Barbados Blackbelly sheep will tell you that you will get scurs of varying type, shape and length, or possibly even an occasional horn bud from polled bloodlines.  We have personally seen these grow on a polled head as late as eight months of age.  As we strive to eradicate all scurs and horn buds, we adhere to judicious culling.  Therefore, we do not sell breeding rams that are less than twelve months old, but you won't get a ram from us that is "sort of polled",  "should be polled",  "was polled at 5 months",  "it's parents are polled",  or "it was polled when I sold it to you."   IT WILL BE POLLED.  We would not use a ram lamb to breed to our ewes and we don't expect you to do so either.  Producing quality polled sheep is not a crap shoot.  It is a science.   That is why ram lambs are not sold for breeding  at Lone Star Farm.
